I hate to slam an adventure game, especially in this day and age when each adventure game I can find with good production value is precious. My experience playing adventure games started from the late 80s, so I have played a fair share of good and bad ones.
I have to say, we are not THAT desperate for adventure games that we need to tolerate puzzles and story progression that are nearly completely arbitrary, and sometimes downright illogical. For example, if I cant stopper a sink because there is too much trash in it that I cannot see the stopper, then why would putting an olive down there magically stopper the sink? The lack of sense is not an infrequent thing, but consistent throughout the game, which makes going forward a chore. The arbitrariness gets much worse near the end of the game, to the point that I felt cheated and insulted as a player, because I am compelled to play to the end to get the ending, and because I paid for this game already.
There is one particular joke near the end of the game that would make you think about the very game you are playing: "No matter how much you try to polish a ... and pass it off as art, it will not be art. It is only considered art because society feels desperate for anything artistic."
Fortunately, we are not living in the story of this game, and we are not that deprived of good things. There are far better adventure games out there, and Im not talking big budget (big budget dont make these types of game often anymore) but other indie developers who simply respect their audience a bit more.
Advice to the developer. Please play test your game. If 10% of the time polishing the graphics went into finishing the game once or twice and polishing the gameplay, the game would have been 10 times better. You know what, sacrifice the quality of the graphics near the end. By the end of the game, if people have actually enjoyed the game up to that point, they wont care at all that the visual degraded a bit, but if the game was a horrible random mess to play through, then no matter how good it looks, people will force themselves to write a long and terrible review of it because they are so angry.
